The device (1) has a differentiation unit (10) for detecting whether a yield limit of a threaded bolt is reached during tensioning the bolt. A computer (7) and a controller (11) depressurize the device when reaching or shortly after reaching the yield limit of the threaded bolt. An exchangeable bushing (18) is screwed onto a free threaded end of the bolt. A tensioning piston (23) is seal-tightly guided in a cylinder (24) and is supported on an end of the exchangeable bushing. A control unit (5) includes an input unit (6) for inputting nominal initial tension of the bolt. An independent claim is also included for a method for control of pressure loading of a hydraulic bolt tensioning device.
