The invention relates to a method for the quantitative determination of mesolactide in a composition comprising at least one more lactide stereoisomer, relative to the total amount of lactide stereoisomers in the composition. According to the invention, the quantitative determination is based on the determination of absorption, carried out in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Small amounts of mesolactide in a lactide composition can be determined in real time in a simple and reproducible way. In this method of quantification, it is preferable to use the near region of the IR spectrum. This method can be applied with a significant advance technology in the device for producing lactide.
