The invention relates to a method for the quantitative determination of mesolactide in a composition comprising at least one more lactide stereoisomer, relative to the total amount of lactide stereoisomers in the composition. Small amounts of mesolactide in a lactide composition can be determined in real time in a simple and reproducible way. In this method of quantification, it is preferable to use the near region of the IR spectrum. This method can be applied with a significant advance technology in the device for producing lactide.
