ABSTRACT Embodiments herein provide a method for detecting and recovering shadow in a flash version of an initial image. A method for detecting and recovering specular reflection artifacts in the flash version of the initial image is also provided. The method includes obtaining a flash version of an image and a no-flash version of the image, in which part of the flash version includes a shadow. The shadow pixels and specular reflection artifacts in the flash image are replaced by patches in the flash image using the no- flash image. FIG. 1
