DEVELOPMENT OF A NOVEL THERMAL BONDED NONWOVEN FABRIC FROM CHICKEN FEATHER FIBERS AND JUTE FIBERS

In order to preserve environmental hygiene many agro by-products, mostly lignocellulosic in nature, have been well investigated for their utilization in diverse technical sectors. Considering the abundance and adverse ecological implications of chicken feathers, an interest has been generated on the utilization of protein rich poultry feathers. With the object to make chicken feather fibers useful for diverse technical textile applications, they were first blended with different proportions of jute fibers and evaluated for their physical properties. Nonwoven made with combination of both the fibers at equal proportion showed improved insulation without much increase in weight and was found suitable as a lining material to provide warmth without weight.
