PARTICULATE PINE NEEDLE POWDER BASED ADSORBENT OF FLUORIDE FROM CONTAMINATED WATER AND WATER PURIFICATION SYSTEM INVOLVING THE SAME

A low cost ecofriendly water purification unit for removal of flouride ions from fluoride contaminated water as high as 20 ppm to well below the permissible limit of 1ppm (WHO) using pine needle powder as an adsorbent. Importantly, with the use of pine needle powder, a reduction of more than 90% of fluoride has been achieved. The purification unit consists of two chambers wherein the first chamber stores the feed water and the second chamber has the filtering unit comprising four layers. When the contaminated water passes through this unit, the fluoride content is brought down below the permissible limit of 1 ppm and the clean water has a neutral pH.
