The present invention relates to rebound arresting mechanism to avoid multiple impacts/collisions involving a double level rack-rack coupling mechanism, wherein a first rack is attached to the impactor which during the fall of impactor just passes over its counter rack, which is attached to a slider using pins and springs around them. The rack on impactor after first impact while rebounding engages with the counter-rack moving the slider attached to the counter-rack, with it. This slider on the other side is attached to a second rack in level two in the same way, which does not get engaged to its counter-rack while moving up. After reaching certain height the impactor starts to fall down again, this time an arrestor which is attached to the impactor lands on the slider which does not move down as the rack on the back side gets engaged with its counter-rack. The rebound arresting mechanism is suitable for apparatus to study the impact responses of materials like composites or sandwich structures or in drop hammers since multiple impacts often distort the contour of the piece being formed.
