A process for detection of aromatic amines in a sample of organic functional groups using 5-(Diethylamino)-2-(7,8,13,14- tetrahydrodibenzo[a,i]phenanthridin-5-yl)phenol, boron trifluoride diethyl etherate and tetrahydrofuran solvent is provided. The resultant tetra coordinated boron complex, emits greenish yellow fluorescence when the sample of organic functional groups includes aromatic primary amines which is visible through naked eye.
