Automatic control of home appliances is high on demand these days. In this work, we have designed, constructed a circuit which specially meets the requirement for controlling home appliances through any remote control device that is portable within the periphery of the room. The device is able to control a load of high power rating from remote area. The system works fine and it is also considered to be a cost effective as it uses the required frequency (RF) from the remote control device which matches the bit pattern assigned to each device, thereby invoking its respective action. We have also incorporated a voice acknowledgment whenever a load is being switched ON. We have four buttons on the remote control to switch ON the loads and to switch them OFF. The remote is being programmed using the Embedded C language and compiled using the Keil compiler. As we are using RF based remote control device to operate the appliances, it doesnt require a fixed distance between the remote control and the appliance to be controlled. It can also be used from the room next door as it has the ability to penetrate through walls and flooring with a performance range of 100 feet. It allows the user to operate multiple appliances they want. The main objective behind this project is to make even the physically and visually challenged people to make the most out of this remote control by allowing them to operate various appliances from a single point. It allows the user to connect appliances that works upto 200 watts.
