A fingerprint recognition method a method and device for updating a fingerprint template and a mobile terminal. The method comprises: acquiring a fingerprint image inputted by a user (S11); comparing the fingerprint image with N fingerprint templates in a prestored fingerprint template set (S12); if the degree of match between the fingerprint image and an i th fingerprint template in the prestored fingerprint template set is greater than a first preset threshold then controlling a mobile terminal to execute a corresponding target operation (S13); further determining whether or not the degree of match between the fingerprint image and the i th fingerprint template in the prestored fingerprint template set is greather than a second preset threshold (S14) where the second preset threshold is greater than the first preset threshold; and if yes then generating on the basis of the fingerprint image a new fingerprint template and adding same to the fingerprint template set (S15). The fingerprint recognition method per which fingerprint templates are no longer fixed allows over subsequent uses by the user continuous improvement and supplementation of the fingerprint templates in a fingerprint template set on the basis of fingerprint images used by the user.
