Plasmin is a proteolytic enzyme that dissolves fibrin clots and plays the major role in clot lysingsystem. Under abnormal condition, plasmin in excreted via biofluids which acts as ar indicator of the disease. Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a chronic kidney disorder that i caused by the damage of capillaries present in glomeruli. The disease in characterized b excretion of plasmin in urine at a very low concentration. The present study deals with the detection of plasmin in biofluids using metal nanoparticle based biosensor. The biosensor is made up of gold or silver nanoparticles conjugated with the peptide specific for the proteolytic activity of plasmin. Addition of biofluid such as urine from DN affectec individual to a solution containing peptide conjugated nanoparticle will result in coloi change that shows the presence of plasmin. The change in color of the solution is due to the proteolytic activity of plasmin on the peptide conjugated onto the nanoparticles.
