Present invention relates to a system and method for implementation of modified space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technique of distinct types to drive seven level diode clamped multilevel inverter is disclosed. A seven level diode clamped multi-level inverter for supplying a load. The dc source voltage is divided and input to the six dc-link series connected capacitors to produce the seven-level output by switching the power electronic switches such as insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) power switches. Pluralities of clamping diodes are employed for each leg of three phases for clamping the voltages to required level in each transition of inverter. Plurality of space vector pulse width modulation techniques are used to produce the output voltages with less total harmonic distortion, to increase utilization dc-link voltage, to minimize switching losses and to balance the dc-link voltages.
