Abstract In one of embodiment of the present invention-a method of synthesis of polymer functionalized graphene composites as highly potent flame retardants. In this study, functionalized polyaniline (PANI)-and-polypyrrole (PPy)-supported graphene- composites-were synthesized by the reaction of graphene oxide, and monomers of the above mentioned polymers; aniline-and pyrrole respectively in presence of phosphoric acid. Acidic condition was maintained during the synthesis of nano-polymeric composites in the presence of ferric chloride as an oxidizing or polymerizing agent. Subsequently, the properties of the resultant functionalized G-fPANI and G-fPpy composites were studied and were found to improve the flame retardant character of fabrics and wood. This strategy demonstrates that polymer functionalized graphene composite surface can be easily synthesized via an environmentally benign and cost-effective route in comparison to prior works.
