UTILIZATION OF WASTE POLY ETHYLENE BAGS AND FLY ASH FOR ENGINEERING APPLICATION

A new technique has been developed to utilize the waste polyethylene plastic bags and fly ash which are non-degradable and hazardous to environment (air, water and lands). The newly developed composite material will reduce the adverse effect of waste plastic bags and fly ash on environment and human health. The process was carried out to burn the used polyethylene plastic bags under controlled environment (with scrubber) to convert plastic bags in to powder form. The developed powder was mixed with fly ash and cement (in appropriate proportion) to form composite which can be utilized in various engineering applications (Layer of road construction, building construction etc.). The invented technique enhances the strength of the composite made by the waste polyethylene plastic bags and fly ash. The microstructural and mechanical properties of developed composite were studied and enhanced properties were observed.
