摘要
The present disclosure is related to a device and method for securing surgical stitches in human tissue repair procedures. The method and device comprises several components necessary for its correct operation; consists of a special surgical stitch composed of protuberances (1), a fastening button (2) made of biocompatible and transparent polymers with an internal resin filling (3) curable with ultraviolet light and a surgical instrument that guides and pushes the fastening button to the tissue to be repaired. The fastening method and surgical repair described in the present invention, consists, as a first step, in passing the surgical stitch with protuberances through the tissues to be repaired; the repair can be through white tissue with soft tissue, or soft tissue with hard tissue as in the case of reinsertions of tendons with bone. The second step of the method, is to slide a surgical button made of a biocompatible polymer and that the same has enough flexibility to be able to pas s the surgical button through the stitch with protuberances with little or no force using a guide instrument to push and slide the button. The button has a central hole whose diameter allows passing the protuberances of the special surgical stitch with minimal or no effort when being slid and pushed with the guide instrument. The flexibility of both, the base polymer and the resin filling and curable with ultraviolet light, contributes to the sliding of the surgical button in an easy way without high mechanical resistances for the surgeon. Once the surgical button is placed on the tissue to be repaired, the same is compressed by an additional force exerted by the surgeon and driven by the guiding instrument; when deformed, the surgical button undergoes a mechanical deformation and moves radially in all directions. The main effect of this is that the central hole whose diameter before allowed the passage of the protuberances has decreased to the degree that it closes enough to be subst antially less than the protuberances and only allows the passage of only the thin section of the stitch. The third step of the method is to operate a circuit that turns on an ultraviolet light placed at the tip of the guide instrument; at the moment when the surgical button is deformed and collapsed by the compression forces exerted on it, the ultraviolet light is turned on and will begin to harden the internal resin curable with ultraviolet light. This last procedure will cure the resin and harden it, in such a way that the central hole of the surgical button, whose diameter is now smaller and does not allow the passage of the protuberances in the stitch, the same will be permanently hardened and it will be a solid structure that will hold the surgical suture with high levels of mechanical resistance. As a last step of the method, the guide instrument is removed from the repair zone and the distal ends of the stitch are cut. The method offers the flexibility of multiple configuration s and can be repeated in as many areas as possible to achieve an improvement in the distribution of compression efforts on the tissue. The device and surgical method product of the present invention contribute to a homogeneous distribution of contact stresses on the tissue, allowing a better blood supply to promote the repair and minimizes localized damage by compression forces and shear stress on the tissues under repair.
