The invention relates to a stand and a method for performing ignition tests on small components of the equipments meant to be used in explosive atmospheres. According to the invention, the stand comprises a test chamber (1) containing the electric equipment with the components (2) to be tested, a system for supply with inflammable gas/liquid (11) for making the explosive mixture for the test within the test chamber (1), a supply source (6) meant to supply the electric equipment with the components (2) to be tested, some thermocouples located on the surface of the components (2) to be tested, a multifunctional module (9) interconnected with the electric circuit of the components (2) to be tested, for monitoring electric parameters during the test, a thermographic camera (13) which monitors the general thermal condition when the components (2) to be tested are supplied from the supply source (6) and a data acquisition system (8) which, along with the multifunctional module (9) and a computer system (10), has the role of processing the measured parameters data.
