The invention relates to a process for preparing the luminophore LaOCl doped with rare earths: Ce, Tb, Eu. According to the invention, the process comprises the sol-gel reaction between lanthanum acetate and europium, cerium and terbium acetate, in an ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol solution, with admixture of trichloroacetic acid and water, in a molar ratio of 1:0.75:0.2:0.8, the resulting transparent sol being then mixed, at the ambient temperature, for 2 h, until the liquid sol is evaporated, and then it is left to dry at the temperature of 60°C, for 24 h, the xerogel as powder being then calcined at a temperature of 500°C, for 1 h, to result in a crystalline matrix of LaOCl doped with cerium, erbium and europium, with luminophore properties for radiation X.
