The invention relates to a method for diagnosing a proportional valve unit (100) of an articulation control system (10), the articulation control system (10) comprising: at least one hydraulic damping means (20) arranged to dampen a pivotal movement about an articulation unit (8); at least one proportional valve unit (100) arranged to regulate the damping effect of the at least one damping means (20); and a control unit (200) arranged to control the proportional valve unit (100) by supplying a control current. The method comprises the steps of: determining (s101) the current (I) through the proportional valve unit (100); determining (s102) a target current (I) through the proportional valve unit; and determining (s103) the functionality of the proportional valve unit (100) by comparing the determined current (I) with the target current (I).
