A method to protect the privacy of an individual in a space where they have the ability to collect and store data through a lighting control system (900), the lighting control system being one of a control system for central lighting and a network lighting control system, comprising the method: presenting the individual with a menu through which the individual can select various privacy settings that concern such data, including privacy settings whether the data can be associated or not with the individual; record one or more selections of such privacy settings made by the individual; and collect the data according to the registered selections.
