A system (1800) for determining a breast volume automatically from a three-dimensional (3D) representation of a contoured surface of an upper torso part, comprising: (a) a 3D imaging device for obtaining said 3D representation (100; 200) of said contoured surface of said upper torso part; (b) a computerized analysis device connected to said 3D imaging device comprising one or more modules implemented in a computer to determine the degree of change of the contours of said 3D representation of the upper torso; (c) said computerized analysis device further comprises one or more modules implemented in a computer to determine from said 3D representation a curve of 3D breast fold not closed but continuous, by analyzing said degree of change of said contours of said representation 3D, wherein said determined and unclosed breast fold curve is along the 3D surface of said 3D representation defining the lower part of the breast; (d) said computerized analysis device further comprises one or more modules implemented in computer to determine from said 3D representation the chest parameters analyzing said contours and said degree of change of said contours of the 3D representation, where said chest parameters 3D comprises at least one anterior axillary line (610) corresponding to said determined breast fold and a midline of the anterior chest; (e) said computerized analysis device further comprises one or more modules implemented in a computer to determine a virtual chest wall (1060) from said determined and unclosed 3D breast fold curve and said determined 3D chest parameters, whereby said determined virtual thoracic wall is optimized to the characteristics of a 3D model of a thoracic wall and where said virtual thoracic wall corresponds to said determined breast fold; (f) said computerized analysis device further comprises one or more modules implemented in computer to determine a mammary volume from said determined and unclosed 3D breastfold curve, said optimized virtual chest wall and an integral of the 3D surface of the 3D representation of said upper torso; and (g) a display device or information connected to said computerized analysis device to display or report said breast volume.
