An antisense oligonucleotide that targets a natural antisense transcript of the glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) for use as a therapeutic compound, where the GDNF natural antisense transcript has the nucleic acid sequence as set forth in one of the SEQ ID NO: 2-3, 42-44, and where the antisense oligonucleotide increases the expression of glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF).
