A method that facilitates the scrambling of data for transmission in a wireless communication environment, comprising: initializing a scrambling sequence based at least in part on a type of radio network temporary identifier, RNTI, which is a function of a type of transmission corresponding to the data to be transmitted; randomizing the data with the scrambling sequence to produce randomized data; and transmitting the scrambled data to at least one receiving wireless communication apparatus, wherein: the RNTI type, for a downlink data transmission, is selected from a first set of RNTI types including: information RNTI of the system, SI-RNTI; Radiolocation RNTI, P-RNTI; Random Access RNTI, RA-RNTI; Temporary cell RNTI, temporary C-RNTI; Semi-persistent planning cell RNTI, SPS C-RNTI; and cell RNTI, C-RNTI; or the RNTI type, for an uplink data channel transmission, is selected from a second set of RNTI types including: temporary cell RNTI, temporary C-RNTI; Semi-persistent planning cell RNTI, SPS C-RNTI; and cell RNTI, C-RNTI.
