The invention refers to a foundation for a wind turbine tower and to the pre-assembly method of said tower, where the tower comprises sections (4) divided into segments (5) and where the foundation comprises a pile cap (1) with an upper base (12 ), a lower base (10) and an inclined surface (13) being the upper base (12) of less area than the lower base (10). The foundation comprises: - a set of support elements that project from the inclined surface (13) of the pile cap (1) configured so that the free surfaces (24) of said support elements configure support surfaces of the segments (5 ) for the pre-assembly of a section (4), and - a set of filiform joining elements (3) that are arranged in connection with the pile cap (1) and whose free end (31) is intended to join the voussoirs (5 ) of a section (4).
