A system for subatmospheric pressuretherapy in connection with healing a woundis provided. The system includes a wound dressingcover dimensioned for positioning relative to awound bed of a subject to establish a reservoirover the wound bed in which subatmosphericpressure may be maintained, a subatmosphericpressure mechanism including, a housing, a vacuumsource disposed in the housing, and a collectioncanister in fluid communication with the vacuumsource. The system further includes an exudateconduit in fluid communication with thewound dressing and the collection canister for collectingexudate removed from the reservoir anddeposited in the collection canister under influenceof the vacuum source and a vent conduit influid communication with the collection canisterand the wound dressing for introducing air intothe reservoir to facilitate flow of exudate throughthe exudate conduit.
