A transformer (100), particularly a medium frequency transformer, is described. The transformer (100) includes a transformer core having a core leg with a longitudinal axis (111), and a winding arrangement (120) including a conductor (125) wound around the longitudinal axis (111) of the core leg with a number of turns Nt, wherein the conductor (125) includes a group of litz wires which are electrically connected in parallel. The group of litz wires (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) includes a first subgroup of litz wires (1, 2, 3) and a second subgroup of litz wires (4, 5, 6).
