The present invention provides a service system. More specifically, the present invention relates to a service system for providing a service related to installing a program such as an application on a portable terminal by using a kiosk device, and to a method for operating the service system. According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a list of predetermined applications is provided via a kiosk located in each region and, if users install the corresponding applications on their portable terminals, electronic money is provided, thereby attracting the users' interest in the applications in an original way.
