The invention relates to an injection mould and to a method for applying plastic protective caps to bar-shaped inserts, particularly to reinforcing steel bars. The injection mould comprises two mould halves with moulding surface halves which form a cavity open on one end in a closed working position. The moulding surface halves each comprise, on the open end of the cavity, a half-piece of a die ring that rotates in the closed working position. The half-pieces of the die ring protrude radially inwardly in relation to directly adjacent sections of the moulding surface halves of the cavity.
