A method for adjusting brightness of an infrared light source, comprising: acquiring a distance between a captured object and an infrared light source (S1); and adjusting the brightness of the infrared light source according to the distance (S2). Therefore, not only may an infrared light source provide infrared light of sufficient brightness when a captured object is far away from a camera lens, but also the brightness of the infrared light source may be reduced appropriately when the captured object is close to the camera lens, thereby reducing heat generated by the infrared light source, and avoiding the problem wherein the service life of an infrared light source is shortened due to the brightness of the infrared light source being set to maximum brightness for a long period of time, which then affects normal operation of a camera.
