In one embodiment, the method is applicable to a set-top box connected to and communicating with a server, and is associated with a smart terminal, the smart terminal is connected to and communicates with the server, the smart terminal is used to control, via the server, the set-top box, and the method comprises: transmitting, to the server, identification information of the set-top box; transmitting, according to a command acquisition frequency, to the server, a request for acquiring a control command of the set-top box; receiving an extensible markup language table comprising a control command set transmitted from the server, wherein the control command set comprises a control command transmitted by the smart terminal and with respect to the set-top box; analyzing the extensible markup language table to obtain the control command; and executing the control command.
