The invention relates to a method for controlling a hydraulic servo steering system (200) in a vehicle (100), in particular a utility vehicle, having at least the following steps: - reading a collision warning signal (SCW) in order to ascertain whether a collision assistance event is present, - checking whether a hydraulic liquid (6) which is provided by a hydraulic pump (2) of the servo steering system (200) and is used to support the steering has an actual volumetric flow rate (QIst) that is greater than or equal to a minimum volumetric flow rate if a collision assistance event is present, and - increasing the pump rotational speed (nPump) if the actual volumetric flow rate (QIst) is less than the minimum volumetric flow rate when a collision assistance event is present, wherein the pump rotational speed (nPump) depends on a motor rotational speed (nEng) of a drive motor (10) which interacts with the hydraulic pump (2).
