Embodiments of the present invention provide a method for detecting a communication status of a cluster system, and a gateway cluster, and are related to the field of computers. The invention is applied to reduce pressure on a center node when there is a large number of communication links in a cluster system, and comprises a first gateway cluster and a second gateway cluster. The first gateway cluster comprises a first center node and N first gateways. The second gateway cluster comprises a second center node and M second gateways. A communication link exists between one or more first gateways of the N first gateways and at least one second gateway in the second gateway cluster. The first center node acquires status detection information, which indicates a communication status of the communication link between each of one or more first gateways and the second gateway in the second gateway cluster. The first node determines a communication status between the first gateway cluster and the second gateway cluster according to the status detection information. Embodiments of the present invention are applied in a distributed cluster system scenario.
