The invention discloses a method and system for encrypting a photograph on the basis fingerprint identification. The method comprises: upon detecting activation of an encrypted photograph mode, acquiring an unlocking fingerprint for activating the encrypted photograph mode; upon detecting a photographing command, generating an original photograph and generating according to the unlocking fingerprint a key pair comprising an encryption key and a decryption key; encrypting, using the encryption key, the original photograph to generate an encrypted photograph; and generating, according to the decryption key, a corresponding system index, and storing the encrypted photograph in the system index. By generating according to the unlocking fingerprint of a user the encrypted photograph and the decryption key during photographing, and decrypting the encrypted photograph using only the decryption key, the invention is employed to realize encryption of a photograph, enhancing security of the photograph, and preventing content thereof from being leaked.
