The invention relates to the field of diagnostics in emergency medical care, traumatology, intensive care and surgery, and can be used in medical practice. In order to objectively assess the cerebral state of subjects in states of unconsciousness or a coma, to assess damage to nerve tissue and to predict the development of a patient's state, the invention proposes determining the level of antibodies to fragments of specific KAP receptors such as GluR6 and/or GluR7, in body fluids. KAP peptide fragments and antibodies to these indicate structural damage in the brain and are specifically present only in patients in a state of unconsciousness. The level and dynamics of change in the level of these antibodies is used in the present invention to predict both the recovery of a subject's state in a successful outcome, and the likelihood of passing into a persistent vegetative state or fatal outcome.
