The invention pertains to an AC-DC converter circuit arrangement (1) for supplying a load, comprising: - a switched-mode input converter sub-stage (2) for converting a rectified input voltage (Vrect) into an intermediate voltage (VC1) higher than the rectified input voltage (Vrect), - a switched-mode output converter sub-stage (3) for converting the intermediate voltage (VC1) into a direct output voltage (Vout), - a switch (4) for switching both the switched-mode input converter sub-stage (2) and the switched-mode output converter sub-stage (3), and - a control circuit (5) for controlling the switched-mode output converter sub-stage (3) to a power demand at the output side independent of the switched-mode input converter sub-stage (2). The control circuit (5) is configured to apply a first control parameter based on the sensed output voltage (Vout) and/or a sensed output current and to apply a second control parameter based on a sensed current (IL2) and/or a sensed voltage of the switched-mode output converter sub- stage (3), wherein the switched-mode input converter sub- stage (2) automatically operates in a discontinuous conduction mode.
