The present invention relates to a method for distributing virtual machines and partitions of the servers of an IT infrastructure comprising a plurality of servers and a plurality of machines, depending on the resources of host applications, comprising the steps of: configuration of a plurality of probes, said configuration consisting in defining the duration and frequency of the measurements to be carried out and the resources on which these measurements will be carried out; deployment of the probes on the IT system of the infrastructure; collection of the results of the probes; determination of the production capacity of the servers; determination of a calendar of resource needs of the applications; determination of a plan for hosting the virtual machines and partitions on the servers of the infrastructure; and generation of a dimensioning plan governing, for each application, the distribution of the virtual machines and of the partitions on the servers.
