The invention relates to a method for identifying and monitoring areas of interest in images successively acquired by an optical sensor of a motor vehicle. In order to provide a more accurate and faster method of execution, the invention proposes implementing the following steps: - a step (D) of counting points of interest (22) identified by a first descriptor (23) for each acquired image; - a step (E) of comparing the number of points of interest (22) with a minimum threshold value (44); - a step (F) of modifying at least one parameter (26) of the first descriptor (23) when the number of points of interest (22) is less than the minimum threshold value (44), so as to increase the number of points of interest (22) identified by the first descriptor (A) in a following image acquired by the optical sensor (16).
