The device is provided with: a vibration detection unit (2) for detecting the vibrations of a vibration system that occurs while machining a workpiece with a tool; a chatter detection unit (3) for analyzing the vibrations detected by the vibration detection unit (2), correlating with the main shaft rotation speed the regenerative chatter frequency when regenerative chatter occurs in the tool, and storing the same in a data storage unit (4); a calculation unit (5) for calculating the natural vibration frequency of the vibration system on the basis of the damping ratio of the vibration system, which is set at will on the basis of the combination of the tool, the tool holder, the workpiece-fixing jig and the machine tool, as well as the regenerative chatter frequency and the main shaft rotation speed stored in the data storage unit (4); a diagram creation unit (6) for creating a stability limit diagram on the basis of the calculated natural vibration frequency and the set damping ratio as well as the regenerative chatter frequency and the main shaft rotation speed stored in the data storage unit (4); and a display unit (7) for displaying the stability limit diagram created by the diagram creation unit (6).
