Disclosed in the present invention are a software-defined networking (SDN)-based cross-data center communication method and a network system, wherein SDN network technology is used to implement automated network arrangement management. The gateway of an OpenFlow (OF) protocol is supported, an SDN controller OpenDaylight (ODL) is introduced, a Virtual eXtensible Local Area Network (VxLAN) of Overlay is achieved by the gateway, and inter-communication of L2 is achieved. Flow table planning for the OF gateway is implemented by the ODL controller, the forwarding behavior of the gateway is controlled, and a lessee network is managed.
