This disclosure features methods and compositions for treating diseases of the gastrointestinal tract with an IL-13 inhibitor. An embodiment of the disclosure relates to releasing the IL- 13 inhibitor at a location in the gastrointestinal tract of a subject that is proximate to one or more sites of disease, by administering an orally ingestible delivery device comprising such IL-13 inhibitor, said device comprise of an ingestible housing comprising a reservoir that contains the IL- 13 inhibitor, a detector coupled to the ingestible housing, a valve system in fluid communication with the reservoir, and a controller communicably coupled to the valve and the detector.
