A lithium battery energy storage system, comprising: an energy storage system host computer (10) and a lithium battery pack (20); the host computer (10) comprises a control module, and the lithium battery pack (20) comprises a lithium battery unit (21), a lithium battery management module (22) and an actuating device. The control module is used for issuing a control signal to the lithium battery pack (20); the lithium battery unit (21) is used for storing or providing electrical energy; the lithium battery management module (22) is used for receiving the control signal and controlling the actuating device according to the control signal; the actuating device is used according to the control signal such that the lithium battery unit (21) is in a working, standby or sleep state. A method for use in controlling the lithium battery energy storage system: by means of the host computer (10) controlling the lithium battery unit (21) turning on and turning off, when the lithium battery unit (21) does not need to provide power or charge the lithium battery unit (21), the host computer (10) turns off the lithium battery unit (21) such that the lithium battery unit (21) is in a sleep state so as to save the power of the lithium battery unit (21), thereby maximizing energy utilization.
