METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENABLING A SCALABLE MULTICAST VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK SERVICE ACROSS A MULTICAST LABEL DISTRIBUTION PROTOCOL NETWORK USING IN-BAND SIGNALING

Methods and Apparatuses for enabling a multicast virtual private network (VPN) service across a multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) network are described. Generation of a default multicast label distribution protocol (mLDP) tunnel for forwarding traffic of a first multicast stream from a first source to a first receiver of a first multicast stream through an MPLS network is caused. Upon determining that a second multicast stream and the first multicast stream include traffic for a first VPN instance, packets of the second multicast stream are caused to be forwarded through the default mLDP tunnel. Thus, the packets of the first and the second multicast streams are forwarded towards the first and the second receiver respectively through the default mLDP tunnel.
