The purpose of the present invention is to provide more realistic images of virtual reality space. The purpose is achieved by the following. An image of a virtual reality space is displayed on the basis of three-dimensional spatial data relating to a virtual reality space, avatar data relating to avatars which serve as virtual selves for a plurality of participants existing in the real world, and relative position data representing the real-world positions of the plurality of participants in relation to one another. A given participant's own position is defined as a prescribed in-display position. By displaying, with the prescribed in-display position as a reference, an image of the virtual reality space wherein avatar images are present in positions reflective of the real-world relative positions of the plurality of participants, the image of the virtual reality space displayed on each HMD is such that each participant perceives avatar images of other participants to occupy the same relative positions as said participants do in the real world.
