The present invention relates to an apparatus for controlling a power saving mode based on a terminal usage pattern, which collects and analyzes a terminal usage pattern of a user to create a power saving mode control schedule in accordance with a usage period and frequency thereof so as to take an automated power saving mode switching operation, and reflects a change in a user pattern of a recent frequency to control the power saving mode, and to a method thereof. The apparatus of the present invention may comprise a usage pattern information collecting unit, an accumulated usage time information generating unit, and a scheduling information generating unit. Also, functions of controlling the power saving mode of a terminal with the power saving mode control scheduling in accordance with the usage period and frequency thereof after collecting and analyzing the terminal usage pattern of the user, and updating a recent usage pattern, are provided. Accordingly, power can be reduced through the automated power saving mode control operation, and convenience in prompt switching of an operation mode can be improved from the preliminary activation mode switching before a predicted usage time.
