According to the present invention, a position sensitive detector (PSD) system to control on and off of a water supply valve for a faucet comprises a PSD, a detection count calculation part, a timer, a memory part, a control part and a controller. The PSD detects the foot of a user and generates and transmits a detection signal. The detection count calculation part counts the number of detection operations by receiving a detection signal detected and transmitted by the PSD. The timer provides time information. The memory part stores the number of detection operations calculated by the detection count calculation part, and stores an operation time of the PSD. The control part is provided with the time information from the timer, transmits the detection signal received from the PSD per predetermined time to the detection count calculation part to be counted, receives count result information to be stored in the memory, and transmits a final detection signal to the controller to control the water supply valve when the total counted number is equal to or greater than 5. The controller controls the water supply valve to be on or off by receiving the signal from the control part.
