The methods and devices allow users of still or video image content to point to objects in images to obtain more information related to products of interest. Selected parts of the image or coordinates in the image may be included in the product query message sent to the server. The server receiving the image information may process the information to recognize objects or specific products in the image selection. Recognized objects or products may be compared to a database of purchasable goods to determine availability. Information related to the commercially available products may be included in the product information message transmitted to the user's computing device. Users may initiate a purchase transaction for recommended products based on the product information. Images may be broadcast by various content delivery services, including mobile broadcast TV networks.
