The present invention relates to a system and a method of acquiring a three dimensional shape using a static pattern and a variable focus lens which projects a single static pattern onto each focus plane; changes a focus; sequentially acquires images; and analyzes an amplitude of a pattern in acquired images to generate a three dimensional shape of an object. A static pattern mask which does not require pattern drive and control is used to simplify the system. A grid shape pattern on spatial coordinates projected onto an object is analyzed to acquire a precise three dimensional shape without a reference pattern image. As a single image on a single focus plane is acquired, images required to acquire the three dimensional shape is able to quickly be acquired. As an amount of processing (the number of images) is relatively smaller than a conventional technique, three dimensional shape generation is able to quickly be performed.
