PROVISIONING THE HYPER-CONVERGED INFRASTRUCTURE BARE METAL SYSTEMS FROM THE TOP OF THE RACK SWITCH

The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for hyper-converged infrastructure provisioning of a bare metal system. Two fabric elements are configured in master-slave arrangement to secure high availability. An ONIE-possible fabric element may be installed, in advance, in an operating system such as firmware, and an open network operating system such as LINUX is executed. A LINUX operating system includes a KVM hypervisor executing a virtual machine. An operating system of the virtual machine generates a bridge between a switch management port and a virtual network interface, and accesses an external network. A new node element may be added to a fabric element by connecting to a network port of the new node element and booting the new node element in a network/PXE boot mode. The new node element acquires an IP address from a DHCP server, and boots an image downloaded from a PXE server.
