Method and apparatus for separating and removing platelet-rich plasma and bone marrow aspirate cells

Compositions and methods are provided for separating a sample of whole blood or bone marrow aspirates into at least one enriched fraction of platelets and pluripotent cells. A sample of whole blood can be centrifuged in a collection tube containing a separator material formulated to settle between the PRP fraction and at least one other fraction. Preferably, the centrifugation is complete without substantial activation of the platelets. Optionally, the separator material can be cured to form a solid barrier that can remove all or substantially all of the platelets in the PRP fraction without re-mixing the PRP fraction with at least one other fraction. A mobile device and method is also provided that is capable of moving a sterile sample from a separation / preparation vessel (e.g., vacuum lancer) to a consumer or other vessel (e.g., a dropper) while maintaining sterility of the sample.
