Shock waves formed within the supersonic gas vortex are used to provide abrasion resistance within the reactor being promoted to promote chemical reactions and / or to promote the pulverization of the solid feed material
A variety of abrasion resistant designs can be applied to reactors configured to facilitate chemical reactions and / or pulverization using shockwaves generated within a supersonic gas vortex. The reactor may include a rigid chamber having a substantially circular cross-section. The first gas inlet may be configured to introduce a high velocity gas stream into the chamber. A first replaceable wear portion may be disposed within the chamber to absorb abrasive impact caused by the gas stream. In some embodiments, the first replaceable wear portion may be a cylindrical bar that is continuously fed into the chamber. In some embodiments, the first replaceable wear portion may be coated with a catalytic material or may be composed of a catalytic material, and / or may be electrically isolated from the remainder of the reactor. In some embodiments, a second gas inlet may be arranged to steer the gas stream to the desired region in the chamber to homogenize the wear impact.
