Pharmaceutical Composition for the prevention or treatment of EBV associated gastric cancer comprising quercetin

The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating stomach cancer, comprising 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3,5,7-trihydroxy-4H-chromen-4-one (quercetin) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an effective component. Specifically, the quercetin of the present invention, in the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-positive stomach cancer cell line, kills infected cells by inducing lytic proliferation of EBV, and effectively inhibits horizontal transmission of EBV progeny virus dissolved outside the cells to normal cells, and thus exhibits superior anticancer effects in comparison with isoliquiritigenin known for having anticancer virus activity and anti-EBV-positive cancer activity, and significantly suppresses the growth of tumor induced by EBV infection in vivo. Thus, the quercetin of the present invention may be beneficially used as an effective component in pharmaceutical compositions for treating and preventing stomach cancer.
