The present invention relates generally to an apparatus and method for obtaining a registration error map indicative of a level of sharpness of an image. Many methods are known that allow to determine the position of the camera relative to the object based on the intrinsic parameters of the camera and the knowledge of the 3D model of the object. However, regardless of the visual surveillance technique used, there is no control in the image space and the subject may escape the camera field during surveillance. Acquiring a registration error map associated with an image of the object of interest generated by computing an intersection of the focus stack based on the re-focused surface obtained from the 3D model of interest and the acquired 4-dimensional light-field data related to the object of interest .
